SE 32nd Street Barricade

UPDATE - May 25, 2012

At their April 3, 2012 regular meeting, the Sammamish City Council adopted Resolution 2012-492 establishing an evaluation process for for existing barricades and emergency gates on city streets.  The Resolution is available for viewing on the City website:  www.ci.sammamish.wa.us/files/document/9502.pdf

UPDATE - February 14, 2012: 

A new section has been added below that summarizes the February 13 City Council Study Session.  A review of the Connectivity process was presented along with the results of the traffic study that was completed following the completion of the SE 32nd Street Traffic Mitigation Project.

UPDATE - January 13, 2012: 

Public Works Staff have completed an initial assessment of the post-project traffic speeds and traffic volumes.  The results will presented to the City Council at the February 14th Study Session. The information presented will be posted to this webpage following the Study Session.
The City Council accepted the SE 32nd Street Traffic Mitigation Project as complete at their  December 6th meeting.  Westwater Construction Company of Auburn, WA completed the project under the bid amount. No claims were filed.

UPDATE - October 10, 2011: 

Construction of the SE 32nd Street traffic mitigation project nearly complete.  All that remains is to landscape the neighborhood traffic circles.  This work was held off until the beginning of the planting season.  This work is is scheduled for early October.

The barricade was removed on August 25.  Traffic can now travel east and west along SE 32nd Street providing a new connection for the Pine Lake Heights and the Pine Lake Highlands neighborhoods. 

Public Works Staff have scheduled a traffic speed and volume survey to evaluate the performance of the mitigation improvements.  We are planning to present the findings to the City Council in the next few months.

City Council Study Session - February 13, 2012

At the February 13 City Council Study Session, Public Works Staff presented a review of the Connectivity process completed to date.  Next, Staff presented the results of a traffic study that was prepared following completion of the SE 32nd Street Traffic Mitigation Project.  The traffic study compared traffic volumes and average vehicle speeds at identical locations taken in October 2010 and October 2011.  A link to the presentation is available below along with an exhibit of the traffic study results that was distributed to all Councilmembers.

City Council Meeting - March 1, 2011

At their regular meeting on March 1, the City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the removal of the SE 32nd Street barricade after completing the proposed traffic mitigation plan.  Before approving the resolution, Council was given a presentation by Staff recommending that the barricade be removed.  The presentation summarized the public process to date, reviewed the evaluation criteria used, and described the revised mitigation proposal and associated funding.
During Council discussion, the proposed mitigation was modified to extend the sidewalk along the north side of SE 32nd Street from the west end of the Wynn Rose subdivision to 220th Ave SE.

City Council Study Session - January 11, 2011

Staff presented its findings to the City Council at their January 11 study session.  At the study session several citizens asked questions and addressing the Council to submit their comments.  A staff report was prepared for the City Council that provides the public feedback received, data gathered, public outreach performed, and provides the recommended actions.  The full report is available below.

Open House - November 30, 2010

                

On November 30 the Public Works Department held a second open house to further discuss options for the SE 32nd St barricade.  At this open house, staff presented information gathered at the September 23rd open house.  Included were a ranked speed survey results, updated traffic volume forecasts, followed-up with citizens in follow-up on the solicit feedback, opinions, and criteria prioritization from the neighborhood.  Approximately 56 citizens attended.  Forecast traffic volumes along with a graphical collision history were available for viewing.  All of the materials presented at the open house are available below.
 
Next Steps:  City staff will be discussing the SE 32nd Street barricade at the January 11th City Council Study Session.  At this Study Session, staff will present their recommended action, share data collected, share public input received and describe the proposed mitigation.

Open House - September 23, 2010

                

The City's Public Works Department held an open house to solicit feedback, opinions, and criteria prioritization from the neighborhood.  Approximately 56 citizens attended.  Forecast traffic volumes along with a graphical collision history were available for viewing.  All of the materials presented at the open house are available below.
 
A second Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, November 30 at Pine Lake Middle School.  The comments and criteria prioritization gained at the September 23rd Open House will be available for review.
