Adopted Codes

International Building Codes

As of July 1, 2009 the City of Sammamish will be using a new set of codes as required by State Law (RCW 19.27).

The State Building Code Council has adopted the 2009 editions of the codes below, with the noted amendments. These codes will go into effect July 1, 2010, with the exception of the Washington State Energy Code; see the SBCC homepage for related information on the pending delay of the implementation date for the WSEC until October 29, 2010.

The Washington State Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality Code have been repealed, as has the Washington State Historic Building Code. Provisions formerly found in the VIAQ are now located in the IRC, the IMC and the IBC as appropriate. The Historic Building Code has been replaced by the International Existing Buildings Code, as adopted and amended by WAC 51-50-480000. See the IBC for state amendments

Where can I view/purchase these codes?

A variety of sources to purchase these codes are available on-line. They are also available for purchase directly through the Washington Association of Building Officials book store. Copies of the codes are always available for viewing at City Hall. Also, many local libraries keep copies of current "standard codes" (though these may not include local amendments).

What about code amendments?

Washington State amendments can be downloaded for free at www.sbcc.wa.gov. Click on “State Building Codes” and scroll down to select the code and format you’re interested in. State amendments are also available for purchase in hard copy through the WABO book store.

City of Sammamish amendments are currently available for free on-line. See Sammamish Municipal Code, Title 16 for adoption of the new codes and associated local amendments.
