Summary

The Sahalee Way Widening project will widen and improve this corridor between NE 25th Way to NE 37th Street. The City has completed the preliminary design analysis (see Alternatives Analysis Report below), which looked at peak travel forecasts for the year 2035 and recommended design features that meet the City's Comprehensive Plan.

The current design includes a 3-lane street section, which includes one travel lane in each direction, and center median island or turn lane, and bike lane, planter strip and sidewalk on the west side. A wide shoulder will remain on the east side. The report also recommended signal control for NE 28th Place/223rd Avenue NE as part of this project, and preparation for a new signal at NE 36th Street that will be installed as part of the City's grant funded Intelligent Transportation System expansion in 2018. Potential future corridor improvements were also evaluated, and these include the signalized intersection with Hwy 202 and a climbing lane up the plateau from SR 202 to NE 37th Way.

Alternatives Analysis Report Overview

The Alternatives Analysis Report evaluated traffic elements needed to accommodate future traffic demand on this corridor. It looks at travel forecasts for the year 2035, and recommends design features to meet these travel forecasts and satisfy the City's Comprehensive Plan.
