The Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PRO) Plan is a component of the City’s Comprehensive Plan and is updated every 6 years to remain current with the needs of the community, to comply with the Growth Management Act (GMA) requirements, and to remain eligible for grant programs through the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO).

Our current plan was adopted by City Council in December 2004. The updated plan is anticipated to be adopted in 2012 and will remain valid until 2018. We had a lot of changes to our parks and recreation programs in the past six years. This plan will provide an updated inventory of those changes, work with the public to project the future needs, and prioritize future projects through a capital improvement plan that must be adopted by City Council.

DRAFTING THE PLAN

Staff has been busy drafting, reviewing and editing the draft chapters. Members of Parks and Recreation, Arts, and Planning Commissions have reviewed the chapters and provided valuable comments and feedback. We now have a draft of every chapter and anticipate presenting the full draft to the City Council in January 2012.

COMMUNITY SURVEY - The Community Survey is now closed. Thank you for participating! Please click here to view the executive summary from the telephone survey.

Starting late June, 400 randomly selected Sammamish households will be asked to participate in a statistically valid survey to gather information related to the existing and future Parks and Recreation system. Survey results will help guide the update of our Parks Comprehensive Plan.

The City of Sammamish would like everyone's input and so we are also offering a web based survey. Although not statistically valid, this online survey is an opportunity for everyone in the community to participate. If you would like to take the survey, please click on the text below:
