BECOME A SAMMAMISH VOLUNTEER TRAIL STEWARD
Volunteer Trail Stewards are needed to supervise additional trail construction projects from June to September. Individuals interested in a Volunteer Trail Steward position need to participate in at least three WTA volunteer events (see below) in March and April and commit to leading at least 3 trail construction projects this summer.
If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Trail Steward, please contact City of Sammamish Volunteer Coordinator, Dawn Sanders at dsanders@ci.sammamish.wa.us or 425.295.0556. Volunteer Trail Stewards must be age 18 or older and complete a Washington State Background Check. Additional first aid training will also be provided for volunteers.
Volunteers are also needed to work with Washington Trails Association in March & April
If you would like to join the city’s biggest volunteer project ever, the easiest way to make a contribution at the Evans Creek Preserve is to sign up with the Washington Trails Association (WTA) at their website (www.wta.org/volunteer/trail–work–parties).
Much of the volunteer work will focus on building new trails, improving existing pathways, and constructing boardwalks across wetlands. A pair of viewing decks are also in the plans for the 180-acre parcel of open space at Sammamish’s northern city limits.
¬General information on Evans Creek Preserve is available on the city website (www.ci.sammamish.wa.us/departments/parksandrec/projects/EvansCreekPreserve.aspx).

Youth and Community Eco-Friendly Car Wash Program
Car washes can be a popular choice for fund-raising, but did you know that the soap and water used to wash and rinse cars contain waste that can pollute our water resources?
The storm drain system empties the water directly into our local creeks, lakes and Puget Sound without treatment. This is how car wash fund-raising events can create a significant amount of water pollution without even realizing it.
Don’t let your charitable event cause water pollution in our lakes and the Sound! The City of Sammamish has a “Sudsafe” Car Wash Kit available for loan to non-profit organizations. These kits are loaned out to groups on a first-come/first-served basis. To borrow a Car Wash Kit from the City of Sammamish Stormwater Management Team for your event, please contact the Stormwater Management Team at 425-295-0573.
